- Sacramento Wildlife Refuge - lots of cool
birds to check out in winter... About 1 hr north of Davis.
- Isenberg Crane Refuge - near Lodi, best time
to see cranes is mid-Sept to March (e.g., winter). About 1 hr southeast of Davis.
- Jepson Prairie Preserve - vernal pools, beautiful
flowers in spring (briefly) - (about 25 minutes southwest of us)
- Cal Aggie article on Davis open space
- ~2 hours to closest Tahoe locations
- ~1 hour to Consumnes River Gorge (climbing)
